When Evil Lurks Sequel, MANY New Trailers, and the return of James' Corner!

James’ Corner

Post Vacation Thoughts

Chelsea and I just got back from a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas - our first ever. You already know that if you follow our Instagram "channel": the "Dead Meat Feed" (hint hint). It was the rare pure vacation for us. Most of the time, we have to work our leisure into business travel. Which is great, don't get me wrong - I love that our job has taken us to New Orleans, New Zealand, and Glasgow. But it's nice to have a trip where we're not also meeting and greeting or doing a live show or filming "content".

I was hoping to come back to a main channel hosting all of the videos from "Dead Meat Presents..." and the very enjoyable (IMHO) Jurassic World: Dominion Kill Count published and racking up the views. Neither of that happened due to things out of our control. Hey, sometimes you come back from the restroom and your food's waiting for you, sometimes it isn't. It's fine. This many years into Dead Meat, I know shit happens and I might as well be patient waiting for it to clear up.

Hopefully you can be patient for us, too. We've got a ton of balls in the air. Like, too many to count. Maybe too many? We'll see! But even if we only catch a few of them to turn them into reality, there's plenty to be excited about. It helps that the Dead Meat team is a friggin family of rockstars, with everyone killing it at their jobs. Chels and I wouldn't get to do any of what we do without producers Ben and MK, editors Josh, Sarah, and Linneah, writers Tim and Addison, social media man Michael, researcher allstar Bella, and of course the singular Zoran. We're so grateful for all of them and the way they've helped Dead Meat grow and prosper.

I'm guessing the Dominion Kill Count will end up taking up the vacant July 4th spot. The "Presents..." videos will move back over to the main channel whenever it happens (I can't complain - it's a HUGE privilege we're even able to do it, so I'm not in a position to rush the process). We've also got interviews, an Epic Universe video, and when I get around to them, those Year 8 Supercuts.

In the meantime you can always go to the theater and see 28 Years Later or M3GAN. Funnily enough, they're both sequels that take wild swings and have proven a bit divisive. Though critically celebrated, 28 Years Later seems to have split the horror fandom mostly due to its weirdness (which I loved). Meanwhile, critics have questioned M3GAN 2.0's direction, but it seems like the people who wanted to see it are having a good time. Unfortunately it's fewer people than the first film, since it appears to be underperforming at the box office. But in any case, I have to regularly reflect on how awesome it is for horror right now. There are so many different types of movies coming out all the time. There's truly something for everyone. It's a fun time.

What’s Going On In The World

  1. When Evil Lurks Sequel in Development: The Dead Meat Horror Awards sweeping When Evil Lurks is getting a sequel, with director Demian Rugna confirming that a script is already written.

  2. Universal Horrror Unleashed Attraction Expanding to Chicago: Despite Horror Unleashed’s first location (in Vegas) still being a couple months away from opening, Universal seems confident in the concept - now brining the immersive experience to the Windy City as well.

  3. Little Nightmares III Sets October Release Date: Fans of the Little Nightmares franchise don’t have much longer to wait for the third installment, with last week’s showcase finally giving an October 10th release date as well as revealing 10 minutes of new gameplay.

Trailers

  • SLAY: An indie horror movie directed by our friend Kyra Gardner, written by Jimmi Simpson, and with some producing help from our very own MK van den Berg this cabin in the woods slasher’s trailer is branded “unofficial” as they’ve put it together to seek crowdfunding for the last leg of post production.

  • Monster Island: A World War II set monster movie inspired by the Creature from the Black Lagoon where soldiers from opposite sides are stranded on an island and have to survive? Hell yeah.

  • Witchboard: This remake of a 1986 movie sees a couple become caught in the world of witches after their attempts to open a cafe in New Orleans turns up more than they bargained for.

  • The Strangers Chapter 2: After a chapter 1 that played itself close to the original The Strangers, Chapter 2 is poised to potentially take the franchise in a new direction. How well will that play out? We’ll just have to wait and see.
