Last of Us HBO loses a showrunner, Jason Blum on M3GAN 2.0's failure, and Junji Ito's next TV adaptation

You’ll notice that you’re getting this on Monday rather than Sunday and that’s because…
We’re moving the Newsletter to Monday Mornings!
Why? Frankly because I keep having to work on it over the weekends and at least this way I have both days of the weekend to find time for it.

What’s Going On In The World

‘The Last Of Us’ Co-Creator Neil Druckmann To Step Back Creatively From HBO Series: Neil Druckmann, creator of The Last of Us game and co-creator/showrunner of the series, is stepping back to focus on his work at Naughty Dog, leaving the show in the hands of co-showrunner Craig Mazin (who also created Chernobyl). While there’s plenty of room to speculate that this is the result of a less well received second season, it’s also worth noting that when Druckmann’s next game releases (I’m guessing in 2027), he’ll have only directed one game in the last 7 years compared to three games in the 7 years before that. Naughty Dog may simply need him back.
“We Thought M3GAN Was Like Superman” – Jason Blum Shares Honest Thoughts on ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Failure: Following a breakout movie that left many thinking we’d found our next horror icon, the success of M3GAN’s sequel suggests we, the horror audience as well as the team responsible for bringing her to life, may have gotten a little ahead of ourselves.
New JUNJI ITO CRIMSON Anime Is Coming To Crunchyroll: The mangaka master of horror is returning to screens with a series that will adapt some of his new and old stories, all focusing around the idea of “monsters.”
Trailers
Cloud: He’s directed Cure. He’s directed Creepy. He’s directed Charisma. Now Kiyoshi Kurosawa returns to the world of horror/thriller movies that start with C to bring us Cloud.
The Running Man: Look is this a horror movie? Almost certainly not. But it’s based on a Stephen King book and as someone born in Maine I’m contractually obligated to support him.
